She grew up in Morrowville and graduated from Morrowville High School in 1944. She met and fell in love with Lester Gene Rhoads while he was stationed in Washington State and the couple were married on August 6, 1945, in Chehalis, WA. Letty loved to sing, was a talented seamstress and loved tending the amazing flower beds in her garden. She also loved to dance, bird watch and tend to the kitties that were always at her back door.

During her working years she was a dedicated farmwife and homemaker raising her sons and helping Lester with all the work associated with living on a farm. In later years she worked at the IGA Grocery Store and Union State Bank both in Winterset. All this said, Letty was a gentle and kind woman who cherished the time spent with her family.
